Amethyst Geode

Stone: Amethyst
Size: 1"-2"

geode is a round rock which contains a hollow cavity lined with crystals. Rocks which are completely filled with small compact crystal formations such as agate, jasper or chalcedony are called nodules. The only difference between a geode and a nodule is that a geode has a hollow cavity, and a nodule is solid. Depending on the type of geode, they are rated between 6.5 and 7.5 on the Mohs hardness scale. Geodes are thought to improve intellectual insight, awareness and community spirit, as well as help to attract compatible friends and lovers.

Amethyst is a purple variety of quartz and owes its violet color to irradiation, iron impurities, and the presence of trace elements, which result in complex crystal lattice substitutions. The hardness of amethyst is the same as quartz, 7. The ancient Greeks wore amethyst and carved drinking vessels from it in the belief that it would prevent intoxication.  Amethyst is the power stone of the Crown Chakra and is thought to transform negative energy into positive energy, open intuition, clear and liberate; help with grief and sadness and bring inner peace; awaken and stimulate awareness.
