Celestite (the IMA-accepted name) or celestite is a mineral consisting of strontium sulfate (SrSO4). The mineral is named for its occasional delicate blue color. Celestite and the carbonate mineral strontianite are the principal sources of the element strontium, commonly used in fireworks and in various metal alloys. Celestite derives its name from the Latin word caelestis meaning celestial which in turn is derived from the Latin word caelum meaning sky or heaven. Celestite crystallizes as nodules, granular masses and as tabular orthorhombic crystals.
Celestite is a stone for balance, acting as an equilibrant to outside forces, and stabilizing the yin-yang values within one's energy field. It assists in the alignment of the n-dimensional energy centers with those of the ethereal domain, and promotes continuity in clearing and perfecting the chakras. It is an excellent healing stone. The blue celestite seems to cleanse the area of affection, transmuting pain and chaos into light and love.
