Optical Calcite 2.5" x 2" x 1.75"

This specimen is a cubic transparent Optical Calcite. Also known as Viking Sunstone or Iceland Spar, this item would be a perfect addition to any crystal collection. Measures 2.5" x 2" x 1.75".

Optical Calcite, is a transparent variety of calcite; which often displays beautiful rainbows that flash in the light. It also displays the rare property of double refraction, so when placed over text it will show double the image, slightly offset. Originally found in Iceland, a theory exists that the Optical Calcite had polarizing attributes and was used as a navigational instrument by seafarers in the Viking Age. 

Optical calcite can be a stone used to remind one of the double meaning of words and to assist one in communication during difficult conversations. It is an excellent mineral for use when cleansing and clearing the outer bodies.

Each piece is similar, though no item at Crystal Joys is exactly the same as every item uses a unique stone that is non-fabricated.  Every item at Crystal Joys is truly "one of a kind". Slight variations in color, size and bead shape exist.
