This rare pair of Russian ammonite fossils set in a geologic matrix measures 2.5” x 2” x 0.5” are a great addition to any collection as well as a handsome display piece for any home ore office.
A Russian ammonite pair measuring 2.5 inches in length, 2 inches in width, and 0.5 inches in thickness is a specimen of fossilized ammonites that have been extracted from the matrix rock and prepared for display or collection. These ammonites would have lived during the Mesozoic era, around 252-66 million years ago.
Ammonites are extinct cephalopods that lived in the sea and are closely related to the modern-day nautilus. They had a spiral shell and lived in a wide range of marine environments. These ammonite fossils would have been formed when the shells of the ammonites were buried in sediment and over time, the sediment solidified into rock preserving the shells.
