It is named after the Amazon river in South America. Similar to citrine, it is thought to bring money and good luck. Maybe it does bring good luck, or perhaps its ability to calm nerves leads to better decision-making. This ability to calm is perhaps also intertwined with amazonite’s connection to speech, communication and peacemaking.

Amazonite is a greenish-blue feldspar that can be found all over the world, including Colorado, South America, Russia, and Africa. Amazonite is thought to assist with self-determination, emotional balance, and harmonious interaction of intellect and intuition.

Amazonite, also known as Amazonstone, is a green tectosilicate mineral made from microcline and is on the Mohs scale at 6-6.5 for hardness. The name Amazonite is taken from that of the Amazon River, from which certain green stones were formerly obtained, but it is doubtful whether green feldspar occurs in the Amazon area. Formerly, it was obtained almost exclusively from the area of Miass in Russia. Recently, high quality crystals have been obtained in Pike's Peak, Colorado. Amazonite is thought metaphysically to assist with self-determination, emotional balance, and harmonious interaction of intellect.
