The geological type area for labradorite is Paul's Island near the town of Nain in Labrador, Canada and is rated between 6 and 6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale. It has also been reported in Norway, Finland. Labradorite occurs in mafic igneous rocks and is the feldspar variety most common in basalt and gabbro. Labradorite can display an iridescent optical effect known as labradorescence. In the metaphysical world, Labradorite is considered one of the most powerful protectors creating a shield for auras and helps an individual regain energy.
Natural Opalite shares the same basic chemical properties as Opal and is rated between 5.5 and 6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale. Opalite is made of tiny spheres of silicon dioxide which stack onto each other in a pyramid grid shape. This grid is what allows the cat’s eye effect to be displayed when the stone is cut into a high domed cabochon. Natural opalite is referred to as "common opal" to prevent confusing it with glass opalite. Opalite metaphysically is thought to influence love and passion, as well as encourage physical contact and emotional expression.
