Amazonite is a green to blue-green variety of microcline feldspar with a Mohs hardness of approximately 6–6.5. Its name comes from the Amazon River, although it is uncertain whether the mineral was ever actually found there. Historically, fine amazonite came from the Miass region of Russia, while today exceptional specimens are also found in locations including Colorado's Pikes Peak region.
