Hyalite Opals are a unique form of opal that has a glassy appearance and glows with an intense green fluorescence when exposed to UV light! *Sold individually
Hyalite Opals are a hydrated silicate of aluminum that contains up to 15-20% of water in its structure. It is found in sedimentary rocks, such as sandstone or shale, typically near iron-bearing minerals such as pyrite or hematite. The mineral is transparent and can range in color from yellow, green, red and blue. Hyalite opal is usually found in small, irregular lumps that are often broken off from larger masses. It is also found in geodes and as nodules in sedimentary rock.
Hyalite opal is a relatively soft mineral, with a hardness of 5-6 on the Mohs scale. The most unique aspect of this gemstone is its bright green fluorescence when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light. When exposed to long-wave UV light, its green fluorescence can be seen from across the room!
