Beautiful pair of natural Black Ammonite fossils with pyrite embedded within the spiral of each ammonite. Individually each ammonite fossil measures 12" x 12" x 2".
Ammonites are extinct relatives of sea creatures such as the modern Nautilus from Palau. Ammonites lived during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. Together, these represent a time interval of about 140 million years. The Black coloration is due to changes to the rock formation within the earth after the ammonite was fossilized. It is believed to be the result of infusion of the mineral Manganese into the fossilizing ammonite.
Ammonite fossilized spiral shells resemble tightly coiled ram's horns and get their name from the Egyptian god Ammon who is depicted wearing ram's horns. Metaphysically, it is believed that the spiral draws in negative energy, filtering it through the chambers and releasing fresh, positive energy.
