Poldervaartite is a rare mineral that was first discovered in the Wessels Mine in the Kalahari Manganese Field of South Africa in 1987. It is named after the Dutch petrologist Dr. Pieter Poldervaart. Poldervaartite is a member of the pyroxenoid group of minerals and has the chemical formula NaCa3(CO3)2Si6O15F. This Poldervaartite specimen is from from the Kalahari Manganese Field No. Cape Providence S. Africa. It measures 8" x 5" x 2" and weighs roughly 2.5 pounds.
Poldervaartite typically occurs as tiny brownish-black crystals or aggregates that are usually less than 1 mm in size. It is found in association with other manganese minerals such as rhodonite, kutnohorite, and manganite. Due to its rarity and small crystal size, Poldervaartite is considered a prized specimen among mineral collectors.
In terms of its physical properties, Poldervaartite has a hardness of 5-6 on the Mohs scale and a specific gravity of 3.27. It has a monoclinic crystal system and exhibits a prismatic crystal habit. Its name may not be widely known outside of the mineral collecting community, but it remains an important mineral for scientific study and appreciation of the natural world.
According to some sources, Poldervaartite is believed to possess a range of metaphysical properties. It is said to be a stone of transformation, aiding in personal growth and spiritual evolution. It is also believed to help with releasing negative patterns and emotions, facilitating forgiveness and promoting self-love and acceptance. Poldervaartite is said to enhance intuition and psychic abilities, as well as increase mental clarity and focus. It is also believed to be a stone of manifestation, helping one to attract abundance and prosperity into their life.
