Carnelian is a brownish-red mineral commonly utilized as a semi-precious gemstone and is a 7 on the Mohs scale. Similar to carnelian is sard, which is generally harder, darker, and both are varieties of the silica mineral chalcedony colored by impurities of iron oxide. Metaphysically, Carnelian is thought to relieve lethargy, depression, and believed to increase inner self understanding.
