Agate is a rock consisting primarily of cryptocrystalline silica, chiefly chalcedony, alternating with microgranular quartz. Agate is characterized by its fineness of grain and variety of color. Agate is a 6.5-7 on the Mohs hardness scale. Although agates may be found in various kinds of host rock, they are classically associated with volcanic rocks and can be common in certain metamorphic rocks. Metaphysically, it is believed that Agate enhances mental function, improves concentration, enhances perception, and analytical abilities.

Moss agate is a semi-precious gemstone formed from silicon dioxide. It is a form of chalcedony which includes minerals of a green color embedded in the stone, forming filaments and other patterns suggestive of moss.
