Obsidian is a naturally-occurring volcanic glass that can be deep-black to blackish-green in color. In the past, it was utilized to manufacture cutting and piercing tools, and it was once utilized experimentally as surgical scalpel blades. Obsidian is thought to aid in balancing energy in the physical body.
Apache Tears is a popular term for the rounded pebbles of obsidian. They are also known by the term “marekanite” and can be up to about 2 inches in diameter. They are thought to have a strong action to aid emotional healing and bring you comfort when you are grieving.
Folklore has it that when facing defeat, outnumbered Apache warriors rode their horses off a mountain to their deaths rather than be killed. The wives and families of the warriors cried when they heard of the tragedy; the tears they cried turned to stone as they hit the ground.
